Published 3 May 2026 by Benjamin Baker
Jumeirah Golf Estates is a residential master community in Dubai built around two championship golf courses, the Fire and the Earth. The community sits in the Dubai Land district, ten minutes from Expo Road and twenty-five minutes from Downtown Dubai. It contains roughly 2,000 villas across more than 15 sub-communities, with a major Phase 2 expansion under way through Wasl Properties.
The 60-second answer
Jumeirah Golf Estates is a 1,119-hectare master community in Dubai built around two championship golf courses designed by Greg Norman. It opened in 2009. The community is master-planned by Wasl Asset Management Group, with Wasl Properties leading the current Phase 2 expansion (The Next Chapter, unveiled May 2025). The community contains two residential phases: Phase 1, completed 2009-2018, and Phase 2, currently selling. The Earth Course hosts the DP World Tour Championship each November.
Where Jumeirah Golf Estates is
Jumeirah Golf Estates sits in the southwest quadrant of Dubai, in an area officially known as Dubai Land. The community is bordered by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to the northeast and accessed primarily via Al Yalayis Road and the Expo Road interchange.
Driving times from JGE to other Dubai districts:
- Expo City Dubai: 5 minutes
- Dubai Marina: 20 minutes
- Mall of the Emirates: 18 minutes
- Downtown Dubai: 25 minutes
- Dubai International Airport: 30 minutes
- Al Maktoum International Airport: 12 minutes
The proximity to Al Maktoum International Airport, which is positioned as Dubai's primary aviation hub by 2030, is a structural advantage that JGE residents increasingly factor into long-term decisions.
How Jumeirah Golf Estates is structured
Jumeirah Golf Estates is organised into two distinct development phases.
Phase 1 is the original master plan, designed and built between 2007 and 2018. It contains roughly 2,000 villas across more than 15 sub-communities, plus a townhouse cluster, an apartment community (Al Andalus), and a master plan addition (Jouri Hills). All Phase 1 communities sit on the original two golf course routings.
Phase 2, marketed as The Next Chapter, is a 4.6 million square metre expansion launched by Wasl Properties in May 2025. Phase 2 introduces three new sub-communities (Pinewood Estate Homes, Ashwood Estates, Cedarwood Estates) plus a planned third golf course, an equestrian centre, a 5,000-seat tennis stadium, and additional retail and hospitality. Completion runs to 2028 and beyond.
A separate dedicated reference covers each phase in detail. See What is Phase 1 of JGE? and What is Phase 2 of JGE? for community-level breakdowns.
The two championship golf courses
JGE was built around two 18-hole championship golf courses, both designed by Greg Norman.
The Earth Course opened in 2009 and is the centerpiece of the community. The course hosts the DP World Tour Championship, the season-ending event of the European Tour's Race to Dubai, every November. The 2026 edition runs 12-15 November. The Earth Course design draws on parkland-style courses in the United Kingdom and Ireland and features mature trees, water hazards, and undulating fairways.
The Fire Course sits adjacent to the Earth and is the more colourful of the two, with red bunker sand giving the course its name. Fire is positioned as a more playable alternative to the championship-grade Earth.
A third golf course, currently in design phase under Wasl Phase 2, will run through the new sub-communities. Details have not yet been published.
Who owns and runs Jumeirah Golf Estates
Jumeirah Golf Estates' development and operational history sits with three entities.
Leisurecorp (a Dubai World subsidiary) launched and built JGE through the late 2000s, opening Phase 1 in 2009.
Jumeirah Golf Estates LLC under the Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD) took over master development through the early 2010s after Dubai's restructuring of property holdings, completing the remainder of Phase 1 villas through 2018.
Wasl Asset Management Group, the government-owned real estate group, has operated JGE day-to-day for years through its Dubai Golf and community management subsidiaries. Wasl Properties, the residential arm of the group, unveiled The Next Chapter Phase 2 masterplan in May 2025 and now leads all new residential development at JGE.
Day-to-day community management runs through Wasl Community Management. Golf operations sit with Dubai Golf, which manages the Earth and Fire courses alongside Emirates Golf Club and Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.

How JGE compares to other Dubai prime communities
JGE sits in a specific positioning slot among Dubai's prime villa markets.
Compared to Emirates Hills, JGE is more accessible (lower price points, wider availability, less ultra-prime), more recently built, and oriented around golf rather than prestige. Emirates Hills is older, denser at the top of the market, and more widely recognised internationally as Dubai's most exclusive villa community.
Compared to Dubai Hills Estate, JGE is smaller and more golf-focused. Dubai Hills is the broader master community with school, hospital, mall, and a mix of villa and apartment products. JGE is more specialised.
Compared to Tilal Al Ghaf, JGE is more established (Tilal Al Ghaf is still in delivery phase) and more golf-anchored. Tilal Al Ghaf is the newer master plan with a heavier emphasis on lake amenities and walkable community design.
Compared to Al Barari, JGE is larger and more diverse in product (Al Barari is smaller, more boutique, and themed around lush landscaping).
Each comparison is treated in dedicated articles in Cluster 6 of the Handbook.
Living in Jumeirah Golf Estates
JGE is positioned as a family-oriented community with a strong international expat profile, particularly British, European, and South Asian. Day-to-day amenities include:
- The Clubhouse at JGE, with restaurants, bars, function spaces, and the golf pro shop
- Jumeirah Golf Estates Club for golf, tennis, swimming, fitness, and youth programming
- JGE Community Centre with retail, F&B, and convenience services
- Schools within 10-15 minutes including Dubai British School Jumeirah Park, GEMS Founders School, and Arcadia
- Healthcare at nearby Mediclinic Parkview and Aster facilities
Public transport is limited within JGE itself. Most residents drive. The community is generally safe, quiet, and oriented around private rather than communal living, with golf course views as the central amenity.
A more detailed editorial view of resident life is forthcoming as a separate Handbook article.
